Chapter 5.5: Mori Masahito's Sex Rules

[Mori Masahito's June 18th]

After sending the innocent couple to the love hotel, Mori Masahito was at a family restaurant with Saki, chatting idly.

"Make sure to use protection "

After sending the message to Hayato, he spoke to Saki, who was sitting across from him.

"I wonder if those two are actually able to have sex."

It might have been a somewhat forceful, deceptive approach, but for Mori, who had seen Hayato's feelings up close, it was too frustrating to just watch.

"If it’s Kaburagi-kun, he’ll lead them gently, so I think they’ll be fine."

The accomplice, who had agreed to Mori’s plan, made an off-base comment because she didn’t know that Hayato was a virgin. For Hayato’s sake, he wouldn’t say anything, but that guy was probably panicking by now.

"I hope so. Anyway, should we head to the love hotel soon?"

"Stop with the lame jokes. I don’t want to be one of your conquest stories."

"Too bad. Kagayan, your guard is tough..."

Well, I’m not actually planning to seriously make a move on her, Masahisa said, only showing a regretful expression.

The man who is said to be a natural playboy, Masahito, is basically the type who is welcome to any girl; he aggressively flirts and enjoys casual sex with girls, having a “come as you are, leave as you will” mentality.

However, there is one girl he has decided, without exception, never to touch.

That girl is the one his best friend, Kaburaki Hayato, has fallen in love with—his best friend’s girl and one of his closest friends.

The reason he doesn’t touch Hayato’s crush friend is simple and clear : he doesn’t want to ruin his friendship with Hayato.

The reason he avoids getting involved with the girl Hayato likes is because, for example, if Masahito and that girl were to have a relationship and then part on bad terms, it could have some negative influence on Hayato’s relationship with her.

Although Masahito is known as an enemy of women and can’t deny that reputation, he takes pride in being a loyal friend.

“I never planned to be casual in the first place. If I’m going to be in a relationship, I’ll always be serious. I can’t do anything like date just for fun, and I can’t have sex either.”

“So, does that mean, if you fell for someone, you’d give your body to them even if you weren’t in a relationship?”

Saki glared at Masahito.

“…Hiyori says my views on love are incredible, but I don’t want Hiyori to become like me. She has those rumors around her, but… in reality, she’s extremely pure. I don’t want to see her being played with by men who just want sex, getting hurt and crying. Even though Kaburagi-kun is called a playboy… I thought he seemed like someone I could trust when I spoke with him, so I think she’ll be fine.”

“You’re overprotective. There are things you can’t understand about love and sex unless you experience them.”

“Just say I’m a good friend. Like Kaburagi-kun.”

Masahito is attracted to strong-willed women, but he felt that his values were fundamentally different from Saki’s.

"Hayato is quite... oh, that baby at the table is crying really loudly."

Even though the table where the two were sitting was a bit far away, the crying could be heard, which might mean it had turned into quite a grand orchestra.

A middle-aged man approached the baby's mother. It seemed like he was saying something to her. Watching her bow her head repeatedly, Masahito couldn’t help but stand up.

"I’ll be right back."

Suddenly standing up and heading toward the baby’s table, Masahito left Saki looking at him in surprise.

"Uh, is everything okay?"

When Masahito spoke to the baby’s mother, the middle-aged man seemed like he wanted to say something, but he clicked his tongue and returned to his table.

The mother, seemingly frightened, apologized repeatedly, saying, "I’m sorry for the noise." After conveying that he wasn’t there to scold her, Masahito made a funny face at the loudly crying baby, who had been carried in her arms.

The baby immediately stopped crying and, as Masahito kept changing his face, the baby started laughing loudly. After playing with the baby for a while, showing off his repertoire of funny faces, Masahito bowed to the mother, who thanked him, and returned to the table where Saki was waiting.

"...I’m surprised. I thought you went over to scare the baby."

Saki looked at him as though she were seeing something rare.

"What do you think I am? ...I’ve got a younger sister, so I’ve ended up looking after her a lot. I’m pretty good at calming babies. There’s a way to stop babies from crying that's been passed down in the Mori family."

When he made the same funny face he had shown the baby earlier, Saki burst out laughing.

"What’s that? That’s an awful face."

"Oh, but your smile is cute. I actually really like Kagayan’s smile."

When he said exactly what he was thinking, Saki, who had been smiling cutely, returned to her usual cool expression.

"…You're so flashy. Minus points. By the way, does Mori have a girlfriend? If he does, and he can say that kind of thing to other girls so easily, that’s even more minus points."

"I haven’t had one since second year. I have a friends-with-benefits, though."

"I didn’t ask. But, even if you had a girlfriend, you’d definitely cheat, wouldn’t you? You’re better off not having one."

"Well, what a coincidence. That’s what I think, too."

"Seriously, you’re a woman’s enemy. Any girl who falls for you is pitiful."

"Is that so? When I’m with someone, I try my best to make sure they have fun."

Unlike Hayato, he believes he couldn’t continue loving just one person.

When he sees a cute girl, he can’t help but watch her and strike up a conversation. If there’s a chance, he’ll try to get her into bed—his brain and lower half are what make him the "natural playboy" he’s known as.

"Mori, have you never really fallen for someone?"

"Well, no. …If I fell in love for real, I guess I might change, but… ah, damn. That’s pretty embarrassing. Did I just get influenced by Hayato?"

Masahito, trying to hide his embarrassment after an unusual statement, drank his cola in one go. Saki stared at him, seemingly lost in thought.

"…I see... so you’ve never really fallen for anyone. …Well, I guess it’s true. Kaburagi-kun does say some pretty cheesy things with a straight face. Like today, for example…"

Behind the story of Hayato and Hiyori, the rules regarding Mori Masahito’s views on love and sex were being discussed.

However, Masahito still didn’t know the saying, "Rules are meant to be broken."

A Game To Make Him Fall

A Game To Make Him Fall "Have a child soon." That was my father's catchphrase. Born into a family that saw women only as tools to bear children, I stood at the crossroads of my life after more than twenty years. What I held in my hands were nearly fifty photographs of men. These were potential marriage candidates, carefully chosen by my father. Some had volunteered to become candidates in order to gain something from my father’s company, while others were recommended to strengthen connections between companies. There were various reasons, but I had to marry one of them and bear a child. That was my purpose in this household. I don’t think I could ever love someone. How is it that others can believe in something without form, something like love? I can’t help but wonder. The reason I can't do what the general public seems able to do, is it because I’ve never truly been loved? I set aside the endless, unanswered questions that I had been asking myself since I was born ...
