 09 Skills and Magic

"Then, Lucia's skill is 'Enhanced Olfaction,' right?"

"Yes, with my enhanced sense of smell, I can detect even the faintest of scents."

On the way to the guild, Lucia explained her "skills" and "magic" to me.

In this world, people seem to dislike revealing their abilities to others, but Lucia, now obedient to me, didn’t hesitate to share.

"Maul, that look on your face tells me you don’t think much of it."

Lucia narrowed her eyes and stared at me. Being glared at by a beautiful girl like her sent shivers down my spine.

I had asked Lucia to revert to polite speech with me. Calling me "Ma-kun" or "Lu-chan" in public would be way too embarrassing.

Plus, the gap between her usual polite demeanor and her casual tone during intimate moments was irresistible.

"Haha, just a little…"

Lucia pouted, and her expression was adorable. Maybe it was because we’d just been intimate, but everything she did seemed cute to me now.

The despair I felt yesterday felt like a lie compared to how happy I was now.

"You can’t underestimate the power of smell. It’s useful for detecting hidden enemies, and even health or psychological states can be revealed through scent. If you master it, it’s a versatile skill that can be applied to combat and many other situations."

Her getting flustered and speaking quickly only added to her charm.

Lu-chan really is the best…

"Hehe, well, it’s a perfect skill for Lucia, the 'scent fetishist.'"

"You’re making fun of me again, aren’t you?"

"Not at all. So, what about your 'magic'?"

Lucia’s face lit up, as if she’d been waiting for this question. Her expressive nature hadn’t changed, and it was reassuring.

"My magic is… this."

Lucia smoothly drew the greatsword sheathed at her waist.

Her sword was a large, double-edged blade, the kind meant to be wielded with both hands.

It seemed heavy, likely prioritizing power.

Given Lucia’s history of delivering powerful slashes, it suited her perfectly.

The sword was also incredibly beautiful. The blade was icy blue, like frozen crystal, and not a single chip marred its edge—a testament to Lucia’s skill.

As Lucia held the sword, her reflection appeared on the icy blade.

The scabbard at her waist, coated in a lacquer-like finish, gleamed as beautifully as her black hair, resembling a work of art.

Strong and beautiful, just like its owner, the sword seemed made for Lucia.

I couldn’t help but feel a bit envious. My inner chuunibyou was fired up.

Noticing my gaze, Lucia looked proud. My Lu-chan is just too cute.

Lucia swung the greatsword at a large tree. The strike was heavy yet fast, a testament to her years of training.

Ice spread rapidly from the cut, and in an instant, the tree was completely frozen.

"My magic is 'Ice.' I can freeze things."

As expected, she was vague about it. Of course, it’s better not to reveal everything. Keeping some tricks up your sleeve is only natural.

Lucia sheathed her sword and glanced at me. She’s so easy to read—adorable.

"That’s amazing! As expected of Lucia!"

When I exaggerated my surprise, Lucia’s face turned bright red, and she hid it behind her mask. My Lu-chan is just too cute.

"'Enhanced Olfaction' and 'Ice'… I see. That’s why Lucia’s crest is a woman’s face surrounded by a snowflake-like design."

I poked at Lucia’s crest with my finger. It wasn’t visible now, though, since her emblem was hidden under her bodysuit, on the left side of her chest.

"Kyaa?! S-stop that!"

Just touching her chest made Lucia squirm in embarrassment. Even though we’d already been intimate…

During our intimacy, neither of us mentioned it, but Lucia’s crest was a woman’s face facing forward, surrounded by a snowflake design.

It likely symbolized "nose" and "ice." I couldn’t help but feel envious of how cool it looked… if only it weren’t overlapped by my lewd crest.

On top of Lucia’s crest was my lewd crest, as if overwriting her existence.

This was proof that Lu-chan had become my "possession."

"S-so, Ma… Maul, what kind of 'magic' do you have?"

Lucia hurriedly changed the subject, almost slipping up and calling me "Ma-kun." So cute.

"Ah, my 'magic' is a bit…"

I hadn’t used it since receiving the divine revelation, but I understood it in my mind.

I didn’t want to use this "magic" in front of Lucia if possible. Ideally, I’d never use it… I hated my own "magic" that much.

"…I see. I won’t push you, but…"

Lucia didn’t press further, but she looked a little lonely as she started walking. Her drooping figure made my chest ache.

This was for Lucia’s sake too… I’m sorry, Lu-chan.

"…We’ve arrived at the guild."

Lucia stopped in front of the impressive building of the adventurer’s guild, "Wolf Barren."

"I know. I got punched here yesterday."

"…You’re mean… Let’s go in."

"Ah! Wait! I’m sorry, my bad."

Lucia went inside without me. Maybe I went a bit too far.

The guild was bustling with people—those looking for work, others drinking in the middle of the day, and some half-jokingly arguing.

My first impression of the guild was that it was lively.

My heart was pounding. Even though my true goal was different, the thought of starting a life of adventure excited me. My inner chuunibyou was fired up.

The guild members glanced at us for a moment but quickly returned to their noise.

They probably figured they’d interact with us if we needed something. I was grateful for that—it made things easier.

Though a few were looking at us with surprised expressions.

"Lucia, good morning. Oh? Who’s this?"

As we moved further inside, a girl dressed in a waitress-like outfit greeted us from behind the counter.

"Good morning, Yuria. This is Maul. He wants to join the guild, so I brought him here."

Lucia’s tone was friendly, suggesting they were close.

"Maul, this is Yuria. She handles job requests, reward payments, and other administrative tasks at the guild. She can also prepare meals if you ask."

The girl named Yuria smiled at me, and her smile made my heart skip a beat.

She seemed a bit older than Lucia and me.

Her glossy, light brown hair was semi-long, with the ends curled inward. It looked so soft, I couldn’t help but imagine how it would feel to touch.

And honestly, she was really cute—a different kind of beauty compared to Lucia.

"N-nice to meet you! Yuria-san."

"Hehe, just Yuria is fine. I’ll call you Maul, okay?"

Yuria smiled at Lucia, her cuteness mixed with a hint of allure. Her fluffy aura was incredibly soothing.

"So, he’s the childhood friend you always talked about… I’m glad you could reunite."

"Y-Yuria!"

Lucia’s face turned bright red as she glanced at me. It seemed she really hadn’t forgotten about me.

Seeing her flustered made me feel embarrassed too.

"And you got carried away after reuniting, huh… Just kidding. Hehe."

"W-well, that’s…"

Lucia hid half her face behind her mask. Where was the "Emerald-Bladed Ice Maiden" now?

Yuria, probably not expecting us to actually be intimate, averted her gaze.

"Ah… Well, let’s get Maul registered, shall we?"

"Ah, yes, please…"

In the awkward atmosphere, Yuria pulled out the registration forms, seemingly trying to pretend the earlier conversation never happened.

Lucia was staring intently at a wall, and I decided to follow suit and act like nothing happened.

"Alright, I’ll ask you a few questions. Do you have any skills or magic?"

"Yes."

"Can you read and write?"

"I’m fluent in the common language around here."

"Do you have any preferences for the types of quests you’d like to take on?"

"I’d like jobs that let me travel to different places."

Yuria smiled at me, and her smile was so captivating I couldn’t help but stare.

"That’s very adventurer-like. I think it’s wonderful."

Yuria filled out the forms, looking somewhat pleased.

"Ah, yes…"

I couldn’t exactly tell her that my real goal was to meet beautiful girls in various places… Well, she’d find out eventually.

"Alright, that’s it for the paperwork. Everything seems in order, so just sign here, and you’re done."

I signed where Yuria pointed.

"Is that it? No interview or anything?"

"If Lucia vouches for you, it’s fine. Our guild is pretty relaxed about these things. I’ll get the guild master’s approval later, so you can start taking jobs tomorrow."

Yuria held out her right hand for a handshake. I took off my glove and shook her hand.

Her hand was soft, warm, and just holding it felt comforting.

"Welcome to the Wolf Barren Adventurer’s Guild."

"Thank you…"

I squeezed her hand slightly, feeling it grow warmer…

A Game To Make Him Fall

A Game To Make Him Fall "Have a child soon." That was my father's catchphrase. Born into a family that saw women only as tools to bear children, I stood at the crossroads of my life after more than twenty years. What I held in my hands were nearly fifty photographs of men. These were potential marriage candidates, carefully chosen by my father. Some had volunteered to become candidates in order to gain something from my father’s company, while others were recommended to strengthen connections between companies. There were various reasons, but I had to marry one of them and bear a child. That was my purpose in this household. I don’t think I could ever love someone. How is it that others can believe in something without form, something like love? I can’t help but wonder. The reason I can't do what the general public seems able to do, is it because I’ve never truly been loved? I set aside the endless, unanswered questions that I had been asking myself since I was born ...
