3.5 Lucia Bruna
Even
though it wasn’t a cold season, the air was incredibly cold, it felt like I
might freeze.
I
understood the reason, many chunks of ice standing at the entrance of my simple
village, far from the royal capital, were cooling the surrounding air.
“Guu...
so rough...”
A
particularly large chunk of ice glared at a female swordsman with eyes full of
hatred.
It
seemed like it was putting all its power into staring, but it couldn’t move its
body at all.
“You
can still speak, huh? As expected from the goblin leader.”
The
owner of the cool voice was wrapped in a white mantle, her long, beautiful
black hair fluttering in the cold wind as she sheathed her double-edged sword.
Among
the other countless chunks of ice, there were small goblins, about the size of
human children. All of them were goblin statues frozen by the female swordsman.
Every
goblin had a creepy smile on its face, as if it was about to leap at its prey
at any moment.
It
seemed like they were completely unaware that they were frozen, as if time
itself had stopped.
Only
the giant goblin was spared from being frozen all the way up to its head and
kept its life.
“Guuu…
just a single human female, and we... damn it...”
The
swordsman did not change her expression at all to the goblin’s words, staring
at the large chunk of ice with cold, ice-like eyes.
“But...
you’ve let your guard down! You human female!”
At
the signal of the shout, three goblins jumped out from the bushes behind the
swordsman, all of them wearing the same terrifying smile as the ones trapped in
the ice.
“Watch
out!” Before I could even shout, the goblins were frozen.
The
swordsman unsheathed her sword faster than the three goblins could attack,
though I couldn’t see anything.
All
I saw was her beautiful black hair creating a spiral.
Before
the goblins could even start to bleed from the wounds they sustained, they
turned into ice chunks, probably unaware that their lives had been frozen
before they even knew it.
I
had never seen someone fight so beautifully.
“W-why...”
The
goblin leader had a look of shock on his face, and the creature that had
ravaged our village was no longer there.
“There’s
no way I wouldn’t notice the foul stench of ugly males like you.”
“S...u...ch...”
The
giant goblin froze in terror as the swordsman’s gaze struck it, its entire body
freezing solid.
The
swordsman sheathed her sword and covered her mouth and nose with a black mask
she had lowered to her neck.
However,
her refined facial features were even more accentuated by the black mask, and
her cool eyes stood out even more, causing even me, a woman, to be entranced.
When
the swordsman turned around, the village chief hurriedly ran toward her, and I
naturally approached her as well.
“Now
it’s all taken care of. Please send the payment to the guild.”
“Thank
you. The village is saved now.”
The
village chief bowed his head, his shoulders shaking, as our village had been
suffering so much from the goblins.
My
village, which had been attacked by a swarm of goblins, had sent a request to
the guild in the royal capital to deal with the goblins.
At
first, we were a little disappointed that the swordsman appeared alone, but
after seeing her fight, we completely changed our minds!
We
were captivated by her powerful yet refined and efficient movements. The way
she wielded her sword was so beautiful, we almost forgot that it was a
life-or-death battle.
“I
just completed the request.”
“That’s
not true. You’re truly a benefactor of the village. Please tell us your name.”
“Lucia...
Lucia Bruna.”
After
telling her name, the swordsman quickly turned and left. Her figure, beautiful
and almost like a painting, disappeared into the distance.
Snap...
When
the swordsman passed by, the chunks of ice shattered into pieces, as if nothing
had ever been there in the first place...
We
continued to watch until we could no longer see the graceful swordswoman.
“I
never thought a single person would take down thirty-four goblins...”
“I
only knew her name, but that person is 'Suiphatsu no Hyoujin', the
'Green-Haired Ice Blade'."
I
remember my body trembling at the village chief’s words, even I knew that
nickname. Lucia’s name echoed through the kingdom.
That
person was Lucia... the beautiful female swordsman...
But
I could never forget the sad look on her face before she went to battle...
How
could someone so strong and beautiful look so sorrowful? What happened to
her...
